Allotment update - May 30th

Working mostly in the evenings as socially distancing from Tony, Terry and co.

Spring onions and purple sprouting broccoli for next spring behind.

Kohlrabi is growing fast. About three out of twenty have split due to me overwatering.

Here is the radish, rocket and beetroot experiment. A two year old packet of Boltardy beetroot had very poor germination so, I thinned out the other beetroot variety to fill the end of the bed. The bed itself it working brilliantly. However, the mesh has still allowed flea bettle to pass through. I will need to make another cover from ultra fine' enviromesh' to combat them. What I may end up doing, is building an identical raised bed with the same dimensions, as the covers are going to prove the most useful in the long term. I have polytunnel plastic, fleece and shade fabric to make covers from which will be adaptable to different crops throughout the year.
